Types of Wholesaler

Wholesalers can roughly be grouped into three categories, namely merchant wholesaler, broker and agent, and the head office and branch offices producers.

Merchant Wholesaler

Merchant wholesaler is an independent company whose ownership of the merchandise they sell (they buy them first), and perform almost all functions of wholesaling. They are also sometimes called a distributor, jobber, or mill supply house. Most companies that engage in the wholesaling business belonging to the merchant wholesaler.

Based on the number of functions performed wholesaling, merchant wholesaler can be further classified into:

Full-Service Wholesaler

Merchant wholesaler that provides storage services, has a fleet sellers, selling on credit, rnengirimkan goods, and management assistance. There are two types of full-service wholesaler, namely:

* Merchant wholesaler that sells primarily to retailers and provide a full range of services. Merchant wholesaler it can be split again into:

* General merchandise wholesaler, selling a large number of product lines and perform all the functions of wholesaler this type often found in the hardware industry, medicine, and clothing.

* General line wholesaler selling only a few product lines, but with the number of products varies greatly in each line.

* Specialty wholesaler (limited line wholesaler), specializing in some products in a particular product line. This type often found in the nutritional food industry, automotive components, and seafood.

* Industrial distributors, namely Marchant wholesaler that sells primarily to the manufacturer. They cansells a variety of merchandise, even specialize in certain lines. For instance concentrate on product maintenance, repair and operating equipment, spare parts for the original product, and others equipment.

Limited-Service Wholesales

Merchant is the only wholesaler to offer some services to suppliers and customers. There are several types of limited-service wholesaler, namely:

* Truck wholesaler, the wholesaler whose main activity on the function of sales and delivery of goods. Generally they sell certain products (sepertl bread and tobacco) to supermarkets, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, and others.

* Cash and carry wholesaler, the wholesaler who sells the goods in cash sell quickly. not deliver the goods which the customer has purchased, and only serve orders from buyers.

* Drop Shipper (desk jobber) is the only wholesaler rnenerima of customer orders, contact the manufacturer of the intended customers, but does not handle the order shipment
to the customer. So, they are only responsible for the goods order since the order was received until goods orders sent by the manufacturer. Drop Shipper is required to deal with products that large size and are usually sold in huge quantities, such as coal, wood, and chemicals.

* Rack jobber, the wholesaler that specializes in products non-food products. They distribute their products by truck to the stores and services that they offer only deliver goods, set up display racks, store goods, and sell on credit. Usually rack jobber selling branded products are often advertised, such as children’s toys, tools supporting health and beauty.

* Producer’s cooperative that specializes in marketing agricultural products. Its members seek to improve the quality of its products, giving the brand on its products, and promote both the products and cooperative.

* Mail Order Wholesaler: Wholesalers who deliver merchandise catalogs to customers or retailers and institutions to serve their orders by mail or other means of efficient. Products sold products usually jewelry, special foods, cosmetics, books, and others. Customers are scattered in small areas and wholesalers are not using a fleet of sellers to come to them.
